My wife and I travel regularly between our two homes – one near Mt. Shasta in northern California to a small town on the Utah/Wyoming border. The drive we prefer to take goes through central California, northern Nevada, and Salt Lake City.
We like to stay in Winnemucca, Nevada overnight. The trip is around 13 hours, which is too much for one day, and that town, while not great from what I’ve seen, is about equidistant and so a good stopping point.
During our latest stay, I decided to take a walk around the downtown area, where we were staying and took a few photos.
You know you’re in Winnemucca when you see the engraved ‘W’ in the hills.Proof that plants can grow nearly anywhere.I feel like these folks could use a new wall.An old trailer seemingly abandoned near the train tracks.Speaking of which, the Amtrak goes through Winnemucca.I’ve never taken it myself, but here’s the helpful map of where Amtrak goes in the continental United States (everywhere but Alaska, Wyoming, and South Dakota it seems).I found this to be a typical-looking street here. Not a fancy place. And to that point, here’s a local liquor/beer store. But it’s not all shantytown, here’s a historic home in the same area. And a pretty attractive Catholic church also. Finally, because I love alleys, here’s a nice-looking, not scary one that I saw on my walk.
That’s it for this particular stay in Winnemucca. I’d like to post more of these in this town or others we stay in on our journeys. Hope you enjoyed the photos.
